This documentary highlights one of the most important years in American jazz history: the year in which four pivotal jazz albums appeared: Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue”, Dave Brubeck’s “Time Out”, Charles Mingus’ “Mingus Ah Hum” and Ornette Coleman’s “The Shape of Jazz to Come.” Each took jazz into new directions and, in the case of Davis and Brubeck’s albums, moved jazz to more elevated levels of popularity. “Kind of Blue” is the highest selling jazz album of all time and regularly is noted as one of the best jazz albums ever recorded.
