Bach’s Chorale “Wachet Auf, ruf uns die Stimme” is the starting point for this melding of classical and jazz. Gunther Schuller, often considered the “Father of the Third Stream” movement, defined Third Stream and the current that runs between the rivers of jazz and classical music: some of both, but not fully either. This performance is from the 2000 Swinging Bach festival in Leipzig, Germany.
